Do you have a dream you just can’t seem to get to, or dont know where to start?

This month I dive into one of my early projects, a timeless renovation for my friend the kind and generous Tommy. This hidden gem and has been one of my favourite places to relax and unwind for years. Before we renovated this building almost  10 years ago, I spent countless hours hanging out, working hard during the day and sitting around soaking in the evening views!

From the moment you arrive, it is easy to love this place, warm and inviting with expansive views. It emphasizes how a small building can respond to its environment through good design and intimate knowledge of the site. Whether appreciating the sun rising over the mountains on a cold winter's morning. Looking out the small picture window as you do your dishes or enjoying how the sun just hangs on the horizon on a long summer's night as the lights of the distant cities begin to awaken. It's a visually exciting structure in an even more spectacular environment inviting people to explore it from every angle possible.

Building in this environment is a dream, but not without its challenges. Besides the scorching summer heat, the primary test is salt air. Material choice was critical to ensure the building would not erode over time, like an old sea shack . We designed the floor out of concrete,  the structural steel was painted onsite electrostatically, and the windows are made of uPVC to protect against the harsh weather conditions without compromising on architectural detail.

The result is a luxurious getaway with an ocean-facing bedroom and pristine living areas, designed to capture all that's wonderful about Australia. With familiar and refreshing design elements, making full use of its natural environment. It's easy to forget your troubles as soon as you arrive. The perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Thanks, Tommy........See more
